Loving v. Virginia
The case of Loving vs. Virginia was a landmark decision of interracial marriage. The case was brought by Mildred Loving, a black woman, and Richard Loving and white man. Richard was sent to jail for one year for marrying a person of a different race. Their marriage violated the anti-miscegenation statute, the Racial Integrity Act of 1924, which prohibited the marriage between people who were considered white and who were considered colored.
