Voting act
The Voting Act of 1965 gave African Americans the right to vote. The act was signed by Lyndon B. Johnson. However, this act came with a price. In order to vote, everyone had to pass a literacy test. Most African Americans weren't taught how to read, so only a small amount were allowed to vote. However, a small amount is better than nothing. Also, that was the first step to getting African Americans equal rights.
