Thurgood Marshall
Thurgood Marshall was known as the brains behind the civil rights movements. After growing up in Baltimore he experienced early forms of racial bigotry. He graduated from Howard Law School and started volunteer work for the N.A.A.C.P. One of his first cases was a pay gap in the public school system. Black elementary school teachers were being payed $621 a year while a white janitor was payed $960. Marshall's mother was one of the victims.
After working full-time with the N.A.A.C.P he asked the Supreme Court to integrate the Missouri's all-white law school. He also got the Supreme Court to stop Texas' white only primary elections and he also got the Supreme court to stop making blacks move to the back of the bus in Virginia. Overall Marshall did a lot for the African American community as a justice and as a citizen.
Thurgood Marshall did things for the good of the people, and not for his personal benefit. African Americans were treated unfairly and did not receive equal rights. Marshall will go down in history for not only his ambitious mindset, but for his help in building a world where men are created equal.
