martin luther king jr.
Martin Luther King Jr. had an effect on the entire country, and it is shown through the countless streets and schools named after him. Looking back on the Civil Rights Movement, people regard him as the leader. Before MLK and his work, people like Rosa Parks could be arrested for not giving her seat up to a white man. Children like Ruby Bridges could be harassed because she wanted to go to school with the white children. Teenagers like Emmit Till could be killed for supposedly making remarks about a white woman.
It is impossible to imagine what today would be like without the works of Dr. King. He was a preacher who spoke of nonviolence and biblical cadences. He used the Bible as inspiration to keep striving for freedom. Because he was a preacher, he could get in touch with one of the strongest organizations in the country; the black church. King was a very courageous man who believed in nonviolence and stood by it until the day he died.
Martin Luther King was important to the Civil Rights Movement because he was basically the leader for the movement. His views on nonviolent protest was incredibly influencial on the country. Other Civil Rights groups followed by creating sit-ins and other protests. Had MLK not been part of the movement, things could have got ugly. If every protest was violent, a possible second Civil War may have broken out. Dr. King's work during the 60's changed our country for the better. His courage and drive for equality eventually led to African Americans getting equal rights.
