Executive order 11246
Executive Order 11246 was passed by President Lyndon B. Johnson on September 24, 1965. The order states that the government cannot discriminate against contractors because of race, color, religion, sex or national origin. This order followed up on Executive Order 10479 passed by Franklin D. Roosevelt. This order was Johnson's way of equal opportunity for African Americans to work for the government. A popular phrase in the order was "affirmative action," meaning Johnson wanted things to be done and he would be the guy to do them.
